The mycelium urn is not made in a factory: The production process is entirely natural. A Dutch mushroom grower uses mushroom spawn, which consists of mycelium and sawdust. This spawn can be used twice before it loses its function. Instead of ending up as waste, the mycelium is extracted from the spawn and placed in a mold. The mold is then kept in a controlled environment with the right temperature, humidity, and ventilation to promote mycelium growth. Over eight days, the mycelium acts as a binding agent, giving the urn its structure. The sawdust is reused for extra strength and density.
 
The mycelium urn is not only a symbol of respect for the environment but also offers a valuable and sustainable burial method.
